If you are both a writer and a public speaker then I have some tips for you which I have learned to help increase my productivity. There are now devices which work with speech recognition software which are digital recorders. In other words, you talk into the digital recorder and it has a USB cable, and you can stick it into the side of your computer and it will download everything that you said. It will convert all of your words into ones and zeros, and you can transfer it all directly into your Microsoft programs.

Now then, this article was written by speech recognition software while I am on my walk this afternoon. In other words while I am walking and getting my exercise I am also talking and explaining the incredible benefits of speech recognition software to improve both your writing and speaking. A couple of months ago I was giving a talk to a local group here in my city, and I sat the digital recorder on the podium in front of me. After I was done with my talk, I brought the digital recorder home and plugged it into my computer, I turned it on to see how well it worked.

Although it wasn?t perfect because I didn?t have a close to my mouth, it did record most everything that I spoke about fairly accurately and clearly. I then took that information and put it into online articles. Okay so, what I?m recommending is that you go ahead and find one of these digital recorders which works with a specific speech recognition software program, and there are a number of manufacturers that offer these systems, and then use this technique to increase the number of articles that you write online, or perhaps write that novel you?ve always wanted to do.

In the future, and I haven?t done this yet, but I plan on taking a large rubber band and strapping it to the digital recorder and then to the microphone at the podium from where I am speaking. And then when I am done, I will simply unhook the tape recorder, and save all of that information to download later into a word processing program like Microsoft Word.

Why shouldn?t you harness all the technological advances of the digital age to help improve your productivity? Indeed, I hope you will please consider all this and think on it. Enhancing Sexual?Awareness

There are many myths about sex and sexuality in our society. One of the newer myths and possibly more confusing is that everyone has greater knowledge of sex and sexuality and everyone is comfortable with their sexuality and behavior. What this translates to for most individuals is everyone else has greater knowledge of sex and sexuality and everyone else is comfortable with their sexuality. This leaves most people feeling insecure and somewhat anxious about their unknowns in this area.

Even though it seems we have become a more open society in regards to sex ? the impression given by a visual media, the reality is there has been an enormous decrease in sex education, not only at the public and private school systems, but in colleges and universities as well. Many universities are now offering courses in what is considered ?pop and subcultures? but are eliminating courses in human sexuality. The underlying message being given is it is ok to study what is considered ?alternative? sexuality, but it is not natural or ok to understand your own sexual self. Not to mention the emphasis by our federal government through monies and grants to teach only the message of abstinence ? any other information is unnecessary.

The reality is ? we are naturally sexual beings who enjoy the experience of physical and emotional pleasure which comes in many forms. Usually, our sexual behavior is based on knowledge and values incorporated from the systems we grew up in. As we develop and experience new things, what we like and do change to fit our needs and our new wants. Some people enjoy only ?vanilla? sex (basic with no added frills or fuss), some begin to enjoy experimenting and expanding their sexual repertoire. Others begin to explore the many facets of what is known as kinky while others incorporate BD (bondage & discipline) or S&M into their sexual ventures. While all of these styles are different, the type of experience doesn?t mean unhealthy.

The point is most people in the United States grow up with mixed or negative messages about their bodies and sex, to the point where, parents are afraid to teach their children anything about their bodies. The reality is, if you are teaching your child what their nose and ears are, it is not unhealthy to teach them the real name of their penis or breasts. Many adults struggle with telling their physicians what difficulties they are experiencing because they don?t know how or don?t want to say embarrassing words.

Many people (couples as well as polyamorous relationships) choose to enter into sex therapy, not in crisis, but to explore their sexuality and enhance their physical and emotional relationships. The other message we are bombarded with is that you only seek services when you have problems. Don?t get me wrong, therapy is the place to explore individual, relationship and family issues as well as to address sexual dysfunction of all types. But ? just like we look for options in other areas of our life, sex therapy can also be a place to enhance and explore. So think about what messages you?ve been given about sex and answer the question what are your sexual values and beliefs. Our sexuality is not something to hide or be afraid of ? it exists and just like the other important things in our lives it needs attention, maintenance and acceptance.

So push yourself to find your norms and figure out what is healthy and exciting for you even if there isn?t a problem to fix.

WWE Champion CM Punk lashed out against singer Chris Brown on Twitter Monday, becoming a top story and trend on Twitter, TMZ, E!Online, Mediabistro, OK! Magazine New York Daily News, and numerous other media sites worldwide as SmackDown aired live on Syfy tonight.

"I would like @chrisbrown fight somebody that can defend themselves," Punk tweeted out to his more than 650,000 followers on Monday before Raw SuperShow.

Brown shot back at the WWE Champion Monday in this since-deleted tweet. "@CMpunk needs more followers. He's such a leader! Not to mention the roids hes on has made it utterly impossible for him pleasure a women." The singer continued, "@CMpunk contact my assistant and I'll have em send u an autographed pic for my biggest FAN!!!"

In 2009 Brown was convicted of felony assault against singing sensation Rihanna and was recently criticized for a Twitter outburst after this year's Grammys.

CM Punk responded Tuesday evening with a video reply to Brown "@CMPunk?http://twitvid.com/4CAPE?- This must be said."

Brown replied minutes after Punk's video was posted on Twitter. "@cmpunk?the video u just posted was cute! It's so funny how defensive u are," he continued. Before Chris Brown seemingly signed off for the night, telling his Twitter followers it was time to get "back to the music," his hashtag #Notnopunks was the No. 1 trend on Twitter, while WWE Champion Punk entered the ring for his match against World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan on a special live SuperSmackDown.?

But Brown wasn't finished for the night. He tweeted again "Note:today will be the last day I bring?@cmpunk?existence up!The confrontations that people continuously bring my way are very amusing.?Cuz honestly, that [expletive] is too time consuming to argue wit every person who has their own issues to deal with!"

My colleague Dorothy Pomerantz notes that this weekend, the re-issued 3-D version of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," pulled down about $23 million at the box office over the weekend. This got my mind to pondering the mistakes that people make, ranging from making the "Star Wars" prequels to reissuing them in 3-D to actually going to relive the misery that was "The Phantom Menace" all over again.

But mistakes are learning opportunities. And in thinking about "Star Wars," let?s leave the prequels behind and focus on the original trilogy. It occurs to me that the "Star Wars" films have a lot to teach us about leadership styles.

In particular, the Galactic Empire strikes me as a quintessential example of how not to effectively run an organization. Let?s take a look at five of the Empire?s biggest mistakes and see how you can avoid them in your own organization.

Mistake I: Building an organization around particular people, rather than institutions
Perhaps the biggest mistake of the Galactic Empire made is its singular focus on the preservation of power for the Emperor and a few of his chosen lackeys. There is a constant through line we see starting with "A New Hope" and running through to the end of "Return of the Jedi" of the Emperor consolidating more and more power into his own hands and that of his right-hand man, Darth Vader. In "A New Hope," the Galactic Senate is disbanded in favor of regional governors hand-selected by the Emperor. By the time "Return of the Jedi" rolls around, the Emperor?s only advisor is Darth Vader, and his distrust in his organization is so complete that his only plan for succession is a desperate attempt to poach Luke Skywalker from the Rebel Alliance and get him to join his organization. Anytime your future plans depend on getting a rising star from a rival organization to join your team, you know that you have some serious institutional issues.

As the events of the movie make clear, the deaths of the Emperor and Darth Vader pretty much eliminated any opportunity for succession. A galaxy-wide organization was defeated simply by taking out two key individuals. Despite his decades of scheming, Palpatine?s organization barely lasted a day after he was gone.

By consolidating his power, the Emperor didn?t just ensure that his organization wouldn?t survive his death. He also deprived a key motivation for both his employees and the public-at-large: a feeling of having a stake in the success of the organization. The Emperor disbanded the Galactic Senate, removing the idea of any democratic stake in the government. He wiped out all references to the Force, so there was no longer any guiding ideology. His sole idea for maintaining control of the Empire was building the Death Star, on the theory that, in the words of Grand Moff Tarkin, ?Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station.? Similarly, while in the first "Star Wars" film, there was a scene showing officers in the Imperial Navy discussing strategy, by Return of the Jedi, it was clear that no feedback was being solicited anymore. The Emperor or Vader gave orders and that was it. No further discussion.

But as was ably demonstrated in this exchange in the movie "Office Space," this is the worst possible way to get the best work out of your employees. Fear, combined with a sense of powerlessness, only inspires the bare minimum amount of work:

Peter Gibbons: You see, Bob, it?s not that I?m lazy, it?s that I just don?t care.
Bob Porter: Don?t ... don?t care?
Peter Gibbons: It?s a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don?t see another dime, so where?s the motivation? And here?s another thing, I have eight different bosses right now.
Bob Porter: Eight?
Peter Gibbons: Eight, Bob. So that means when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That?s my only real motivation is not to be hassled, that, and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.

However, because Admiral Ozzel took the Imperial Fleet out of lightspeed too close to the Hoth system, the Rebel Alliance was able to detect the Imperial approach and quickly begin its defense. Enraged by this error, Darth Vader used the Force to choke Admiral Ozzel to death. Captain Piett, Ozzel?s second-in-command, was then promoted to Admiral and given command of the Imperial Fleet.

This swift, decisive punishment of failure is a huge error of management. First of all, mistakes are inevitable ? especially in times where quick decisions are needed to be made on incomplete information. Rather than simply kill Admiral Ozzel, Vader should have attempted to direct him to a course of action that corrected his error. Instead, he threw the Imperial Fleet into organizational disarray as countless numbers of officers were suddenly thrust into new roles and responsibilities without the opportunity to learn them. This organizational chaos was undoubtedly key to the Rebels ability to escape in mass numbers, even as they flew perilously close to the Imperial Fleet.

Even beyond this one mistake, by adopting a management style of ?failure leads to Force choking,? Vader developed an organizational culture that was destined to be weak. People would be afraid to offer feedback or suggestions, choosing instead to follow orders to the letter. This ensures that decisions are made at a very high level, and anyone under those levels will lack initiative or the ability to act on their local knowledge. What?s more, by punishing failure so harshly, the Empire provides an incentive for people within the organization to actually lead their superiors to failure. After all, the quickest way to promotion in the Empire is for your boss to make a mistake, so it?s in your own best interests to ensure that he does.

Mistake IV: Focusing all of the organization?s efforts into a single goal and failing to consider alternatives
When it came to the success of the Galactic Empire, the Emperor had one single idea that he was absolutely obsessed with: building the Death Star. The completion of the Death Star, with its ability to destroy entire planets, was the singleminded obsession of the Emperor. At no point do we ever see any alternatives broached. No scenes between Darth Vader and the Emperor debating the wisdom of building a second Death Star so soon after the first one was destroyed. Nobody suggests to the Emperor that it might be wiser to develop more flexible ways for the Empire to destroy planets, such as combining the firepower of several Star Destroyers at once.

The only other goal we ever see the Emperor pursue, apart from the destruction of the Rebels, is to get Luke Skywalker to turn to the Dark Side and succeed Darth Vader and possibly the Emperor himself. As discussed above, having only one succession plan, based entirely around getting a key player from a rival organization to change his mind, showed remarkable lack of foresight. This singleminded obsession with one way to succeed is something that undermined not only the Galactic Empire, but also many other organizations throughout history. Kodak focused on film even after developing digital technology. Borders focused on brick and mortar years after it was clear that a strong Internet presence was key to the book business.

Perhaps the Emperor and Vader were blinded by their success taking control of a millennia-old Republic and turning it into an Empire, but it?s clear that they became very overconfident in their own abilities. Despite making the same mistakes over, and over again, they still moved stubbornly, blindly forward without ever changing course. And then kept on moving forward without changing their paths until the Empire was destroyed.

Key takeaway: While it?s admirable to not let setbacks hold you back from pursuing your goals, its vital to learn from every failure in order to correct your course of action. Failing to learn from your mistakes and repeating them will inevitably lead to the destruction of your organization.

The bottom line: Ultimately, the Galactic Empire failed as an enduring organization because of incredibly flawed leadership at the very top. By building an organizational culture based on fear, lack of independence, and an unwillingness to adapt to changing circumstances, the Emperor set the stage for his own inevitable failure.

- Where an individual?s ?aggregate income? (i.e. employment income and self-employment/investment income) exceeds ?100,000 per annum
- The individual is claiming certain ?specified property reliefs?
Once the above conditions are fulfilled, the 5% additional USC applies to the amount of the specified reliefs that an individual uses to shelter his/her income.

? Legacy Property Reliefs

It had been proposed to reduce Section 23 relief and curtail some capital allowances. Following an Impact Assessment, it looks likely that these plans will be shelved. This will provide a brief respite to many investors who may have faced insolvency.
Another area of action for Finance Bill 2012 is the carrying forward of capital allowances. Currently, individuals with unclaimed capital allowances from an investment can carry allowances forward against future rental income until they are used up.

Allowances impacted:
- Industrial buildings
- Tourist infrastructure, childcare facilities and third level institutions
- Area-based capital allowances

The new restriction will prevent the carry-forward of unused capital allowances. No unused capital allowances can be carried forward beyond the end of the tax life of a building. If the tax life of a building has already ended or will end before December 31st 2014, the unused allowances must be carried forward for relief by December 31st, 2014.

? Stamp Duty

The rate of stamp duty for non-residential property has been reduced to a flat 2%.

Approved Retirement Funds

The annual imputed distribution on the value of assets in an approved retirement fund (ARF) will be increased from 5% to 6% if the fund has asset values exceeding ?2 million. The tax rate on the transfer of ARF assets on the death of an owner to a child over 21 will be increased from 20 to 30%.

Relevant Contracts Tax (RCT)

A penalty of ?5000 for every payment made by a Principal Contractor without first obtaining a Deduction Authorisation has been proposed. RCT at the applicable rate will also be due.

Start-up Corporation Tax Relief

Relief for start-ups from corporation tax and other gains is being extended for all start-up companies commencing a trade in 2012, 2013 or 2014.

Carbon Tax

This tax will rise from ?15 to ?20 with effect from December 6th, 2011 for petrol and car diesel. May 1st will be the date for other mineral oils and natural gas.

Farming Taxation

Farmers are entitled to a double deduction when calculating their taxable profits for the increase in the rate of carbon tax on farming diesel.
If you are an individual, farming through a partnership, enhanced stock relief of 50% is available. For young, trained farmers, this relief increases to 100%.

More than 1 in 3 counties in the United States could face a "high" or "extreme" risk of water shortages due to climate change by the middle of the 21st century, according to a new study in ACS's Journal of Environmental Science & Technology. The new report concluded that 7 in 10 of the more than 3,100 U.S. counties could face "some" risk of shortages of fresh water for drinking, farming and other uses. It includes maps that identify the counties at risk of shortages.

In the analysis, Sujoy B. Roy, Ph.D., and colleagues explain that population growth is expected to increase the demand for water for municipal use and for electricity generation beyond existing levels. Global climate change threatens to reduce water supplies due to decreased rainfall and other factors compared to levels in the 20th century. Roy's group developed a "water supply sustainability risk index" that takes into account water withdrawal, projected growth, susceptibility to drought, projected climate change and other factors in individual U.S. counties for the year 2050. It takes into account renewable water supply through precipitation using the most recent downscaled climate change projections and estimates future withdrawals for various human uses.

Roy's team used the index to conclude that climate change could foster an "extreme" risk of water shortages that may develop in 412 counties in southern and southwestern states and in southern Great Plains states. "This is not intended as a prediction that water shortages will occur, but rather where they are more likely to occur, and where there might be greater pressure on public officials and water users to better characterize, and creatively manage demand and supply," Roy said.

PORTLAND, Maine (Reuters) ? U.S. Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has a Rick Santorum problem that can't be easily swept aside, even with wins in the sparsely attended Maine caucuses and a poll of conservative activists.

The former Massachusetts governor arguably has fewer effective weapons against Santorum than he was able to pull out against Newt Gingrich after getting a thumping in South Carolina from the former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

As they battled for the 2012 Republican nomination, Romney attacked Gingrich on several fronts, scoring a big hit with ads focused on Gingrich's ethics violations in Congress.

The attacks helped carry Romney to front-runner status in the race to face Democratic President Barack Obama in November - until Santorum roared back into the winner's circle with three victories last week in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri.

But his criticism of the former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania has been confined to subjects like his support for spending bills and local spending projects known as earmarks.

It would be difficult for Romney to find a foothold in using social issues against Santorum, a Catholic veteran of the American culture wars who has prayed on the floor of the U.S. Senate and whose campaign events are often dubbed part of a "Faith, Family and Freedom" tour.

Santorum and Gingrich have been vying for the "true conservative" mantle to lure more conservative Republican primary voters who mistrust Romney as too moderate.

By contrast, Romney has essentially staked his White House bid on one selling point: jobs.

Recently, Romney, along with his rivals, has sharpened his rhetoric in the controversy that is pitting Catholic bishops against the Obama administration over birth control.

The former venture capitalist made a mini-comeback on Saturday with a 39 percent victory in Maine's caucuses, beating U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas by a few hundred votes in a poorly attended contest. Romney also won the Conservative Political Action Conference straw poll that day.

Santorum brushed off the straw poll victory, accusing Romney on CNN of "buying" his 7-point win. The New York Times reported that the Romney campaign bussed in students from local colleges, an evergreen tactic at straw polls from Iowa to Washington.

Santorum also embraced his third-place finish in Maine. "We ended up with 18 percent, really having not appeared up there or done anything," he said on ABC's "This Week."

"BEATING THE TAR OUT OF HIS OPPONENTS"

Romney has the money to fund a campaign of negative ads against Santorum similar to the hardball policy used against Gingrich in Florida's primary last month.

The Romney campaign and "Restore Our Future," the Super PAC supporting him, spent an estimated $15 million on TV ads in Florida to tear down Gingrich after his South Carolina win.

"He's been able to win in these early primary states by, you know, beating the tar out of his opponents by four- and five-to-one on television," Santorum said on ABC.

The next test will come at the February 28 primary in Michigan where Romney's father was a three-term governor.

Romney's attacks have been centered on Santorum's Senate legislative record, including support for spending earmarks and votes to raise the debt ceiling. That tactic may not be a dealbreaker for some of the conservatives Christians and others now flocking to Santorum's campaign.

A national poll on Saturday by Public Policy Polling showed Santorum at 38 percent to Romney's 23 percent, 17 percent for Gingrich, and 13 percent for Paul.

"Part of the reason for Santorum's surge is his own high level of popularity," the group said. "But the other, and maybe more important, reason is that Republicans are significantly souring on both Romney and Gingrich."

Romney's favorability was barely above water at 44 percent to 43 percent, a 23-point net decline from December, suggesting his response to releasing his tax returns, negative campaigning and other missteps are hurting his image.

The polling institute said Santorum was "completely dominating" the most right-leaning Republicans.

The former senator faced questions on ABC on Sunday about his book "It Takes a Family" where he seemed to suggest women were pressurized by radical feminists to work outside the home.

Years before the current Catholic birth control controversy, Santorum said that contraceptives harm women and society. He has also enraged the gay community, as recently as January, by equating same-sex marriage with polygamy.

Santorum's conservative credentials may land him in trouble in a larger, more diverse electorate, but for the voters who typically turn out for Republican primaries, he seems to be hitting a sweet spot.

Susan Wiswell, 56, of Kittery, a nurse who said social issues should be more prominent in the national discourse, voted for Santorum in the Maine caucus.

"He's a consistent conservative both on fiscal and social issues as well. He's very clean-cut. It would be hard for Obama to smear him. He's just a very solid, modest individual that I could trust," Wiswell said.
